Taking Action for Wildfire Safety: Updates from the Mt Buchanan Fire Access Trail Project
Exciting news! 🌲🔥 Last week, we kicked off our wildfire risk reduction efforts on the Mt Buchanan Fire Access Trail, and we're not stopping anytime soon! Over the next month, we'll be hard at work in the area, focusing on 10 hectares with a keen eye on the trail (TU1-J), and TUs 1-A, 1-B, and 1-H this fall and winter. Thanks to the support from FESBC, we're implementing a thin-from-below manual treatment approach for this project. Expect some activity around the Mt Buchanan Fire Access Trail from Branch 7 to the Monster as we conduct a comprehensive Danger Tree Assessment and clear forest fuels from the trailside. Our aim? To ensure swift and safe access for BCWS crews should a wildfire occur. Please note that as we tidy up, debris will be piled and burned on-site, resulting in visible smoke above Kaslo on Mt Buchanan. Stay tuned for more updates on our progress! 🌿
