Forest Stewardship Plan: 2025-2030

March 22, 2025

The Kaslo & District Community Forest Society (KDCFS) is proposing an updated Forest Stewardship Plan (FSP) for Community Forest Agreement K3C.

The FSP is a landscape-level plan that establishes objectives, strategies, and results for conserving and protecting timber and non-timber resource values within the CFA. The FSP has been prepared per the requirements of the Forest and Range Practices Act and the Forest Planning and Practices Regulation.

The FSP does not include operational plans for specific harvesting or fuel management projects. These are addressed during ongoing operational planning.

The objective of this notice is to provide the public and interested parties with an opportunity to review and comment on the FSP. While information sharing has closing dates specified to ensure clarity in communications, the public and stakeholders are welcome to contact us anytime with questions, concerns, or comments related to our activities.

The FSP is available for viewing at:
๐Ÿ”— https://kaslocommunityforest.org/resources/

Other means to view the FSP can be arranged by request. KDCFS can be reached by phone at 250-354-9803 or by email at manager@kaslocommunityforest.org.

In order for comments to be reflected in the final submission of this FSP, please send written submissions by May 24, 2025, to:
โœ‰ manager@kaslocommunityforest.org or
๐Ÿ“ฎ KDCFS, Box 789, Kaslo, BC, V0G 1M0.

This project is similar to the work done on the Buchanan East Access trail and Jimi Crack Corn. Work is set to begin in the next week or two. Signs will be posted during operations, and while brief trail closures may occur if falling is required near the trail, the trail will remain open otherwise.

Wildfire Risk Reduction: Mt Buchanan Trail Work in Progress

November 8, 2023

Exciting news! ๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿ”ฅ Last week, we kicked off our wildfire risk reduction efforts on the Mt Buchanan Fire Access Trail! Over the next month, we’ll be hard at work in the area, focusing on 10 hectares with a keen eye on the trail (TU1-J), and TUs 1-A, 1-B, and 1-H this fall and winter.

Thanks to the support from FESBC, we’re implementing a thin-from-below manual treatment approach for this project.

Expect some activity around the Mt Buchanan Fire Access Trail from Branch 7 to the Monster as we conduct a comprehensive Danger Tree Assessment and clear forest fuels from the trailside. Our aim? To ensure swift and safe access for BCWS crews should a wildfire occur.

Please note that as we tidy up, debris will be piled and burned on-site, resulting in visible smoke above Kaslo on Mt Buchanan. Stay tuned for more updates on our progress! ๐ŸŒฟ
