Home run for the Kaslo Baseball & Softball Association! Huge shoutout to the 20+ dedicated volunteers, both youth and adults, who bucked and split firewood donated by the Kaslo & District Community Forest Society this fall. So far they’ve sold 15 cords and raised an amazing $4925! One step closer to building new timber-framed dugouts at Murray Pearson Memorial Field in Vimy Park.
Exciting news! 🌲🔥 Last week, we kicked off our wildfire risk reduction efforts on the Mt Buchanan Fire Access Trail! Over the next month, we’ll be hard at work in the area, focusing on 10 hectares with a keen eye on the trail (TU1-J), and TUs 1-A, 1-B, and 1-H this fall and winter.
Thanks to the support from FESBC, we’re implementing a thin-from-below manual treatment approach for this project.
Expect some activity around the Mt Buchanan Fire Access Trail from Branch 7 to the Monster as we conduct a comprehensive Danger Tree Assessment and clear forest fuels from the trailside. Our aim? To ensure swift and safe access for BCWS crews should a wildfire occur.
Please note that as we tidy up, debris will be piled and burned on-site, resulting in visible smoke above Kaslo on Mt Buchanan. Stay tuned for more updates on our progress! 🌿
You are invited on a guided field tour to Keen Creek with the Kaslo & District Community Forest Society. Saturday September 30th 10:00 am to 2:00 pm
